2012 ICC Americas U-18 Match Play Day 6: Canada vs. USA
Peter Della Penna here at the CBRP. The officials started 30 minutes earlier than the scheduled start time of 9 a.m. so yours truly showed up at 9:10 ready to log on for coverage beginning with the toss at 9:15 and ended up missing the first three overs. Apologies for the delay but had to sort out the scoring from what happened in those overs, lineups and the toss. USA won the toss and elected to bat. The three out for USA are Omari Williams, Karan Patel and Dave Parikh. The three out for Canada are Trevor Manoosingh, Amanpal Gillar and Stephan Joseph. After five overs, USA is 18/0. Steven Taylor and Karteek Kankanala have opened the batting. Taylor is on 8, Kankanala on 5.

Bakshpreet Gill to bowl the 6th over, right arm medium around the stumps to Kankanala. Dot, full outside off, defended. Single, full and wide, stroked through the covers. Dot, short outside off, prodded to short cover. FOUR! Full outside off, smacked high over cover toward the sweeper on the boundary but his dive can't cut off the ball. Dot. Dot. USA 23/0 in 6.

Abrash Khan to Kankanala from the Pavilion End. Dot, short outside off, slapped toward cover. Single, full and wide, goes to drive and gets a thick edge over gully to third man on the rope. Single, low full toss outside off stroked to the cover sweeper. Dot, good length ball defended outside off to point. Dot, fullish length wide outside off, Kankanala is late trying to drive. Wide, full toss way outside off, called a wide. OUT! Full on the stumps, tried to drive in the air straight down the ground but spliced the ball toward mid off where Aurka takes a catch backpedaling on the circle. Kankanala out for 7, USA 26/1 in 7.

Re: 2012 ICC Americas U-18 Match Play Day 6: Canada vs. USA
Shakeel Ahmad the new man in on strike as the bats crossed in the air. Dot, good length on off stump edged to gully. Dot, good length on the stumps defended. Dot, good length on the stumps defended. Two, full on off stump, driven through the covers, the outfield is very full of dew this early in the morning which is causing the ball to slow considerably. Dot, defended. Dot, short on the stumps and defended. USA 28/1 in 8.

Re: 2012 ICC Americas U-18 Match Play Day 6: Canada vs. USA
Khan to Taylor. Dot, full outside off, driven to cover. Dot, good length outside off, Taylor comes forward to defend and is beaten. Dot, fullish length outside off, driven square to point. Dot, good length outside off, left alone. FOUR! Full on the stumps, Taylor drives uppishly toward Kapoor at mid off five yards in from the circle, if he ran forward it was a catching opportunity but his feet were planting firmly in the ground. He lets it bounce in front of him and then it gets through his legs and goes to the rope. Kapoor has been one of Canada's top fielders this week but that was a very poor effort. Dot. USA 32/1 in 9.

Re: 2012 ICC Americas U-18 Match Play Day 6: Canada vs. USA
Prushoth Wijayaraj replaces Gill from the North End, right arm medium to Ahmad. Single, full on the stumps, nudged into the leg side. Wide, bouncer that is too high and too wide outside off, could have been given as wide by either violation. Wide, full and down leg. Around the wicket now to Taylor. Single, short of a length on off stump, pushed into the covers and they scamper a run. Back over the stumps for Ahmad. Single, short of a length on off stump, punched in the gap between cover and point. Wide, short and down leg. Single, short and wide, slapped to the cover sweeper. Single, full and wide, Ahmad reaches out to drive and spoons it off the toe of the bat just over cover, probably would have been called a wide if he left it. Dot, full on off stump, Taylor goes to drive through the covers and inside edges it off his pads. USA 40/1 in 10.

Re: 2012 ICC Americas U-18 Match Play Day 6: Canada vs. USA
Left arm spin coming on for Canada in the form of Farhan Malik for the first time all week, around the stumps to Ahmad with a slip in place. Cover on the boundary as well as deep midwicket, long on and long off. Slip in place. Dot, full on off stump and defended. Single, full toss outside off stroked to long off. Single, full on the stumps, driven to long on. Dot, flighted outside off and left. Dot, flighted full on middle and defended. Dot, full outside off, stroked toward long off but Malik shuffles over to make a lunging stop. USA 42/1 in 11.

Re: 2012 ICC Americas U-18 Match Play Day 6: Canada vs. USA
Wijayaraj around the stumps to Taylor. Deep midwicket, long on, long off, cover and third man on the rope. Dot, good length outside off, chops a bottom edge toward point. Square leg and fine leg the two on side fielders in the ring, backward point and extra cover the two off side fielders in the ring. Dead ball, Wijayaraj runs up and doesn't deliver the ball when he sees Ahmad cheating out of the crease. Dot, fullish length on the legs, Taylor misses it off his pads, wants a leg bye as the ball goes to fine leg but Ahmad wasn't interested. Single, full on the stumps, driven in the air toward long off. Dot, good length ball defended to the bowler. Only two men outside the ring for Ahmad, long leg and deep midwicket. Five wides, full toss outside off that Ahmad swings at and misses, the keeper Parikh really should have stopped this but it goes through his legs to the rope for another four runs to the bowler. Dot, short of a length on the stumps, defended to cover. Single, full on the stumps, pushed to mid on. USA 49/1 in 12.

Re: 2012 ICC Americas U-18 Match Play Day 6: Canada vs. USA
Drinks taken early at 12 overs. From the looks of things it appears that this was done because one of the umpires needed a bathroom break. Malik to continue around the stumps to Ahmad. Single, full outside off, drives toward cover, gets a thick edge that sends the ball behind point. Over the stumps to Taylor. Dot, full on off and mishit to midwicket. Single, full on the stumps, Taylor goes for a slog sweep and skies an edge out towards deep midwicket, it should have been a straightforward catch but the fielder Siddharth Shekhar claims he lost it in the sun even though he has sunglasses on. He pulls out of his attempt and it lands five yards in front of him. Taylor fortunate not to be out on 21, technically can't be called a drop because no hands got to the ball but definitely a missed opportunity. Aurka and Malik are not happy. Single. Single. Dot, full and defended. USA 53/1 in 13.

Nikhil Dutta comes on to bowl off spin from the North End, over the stumps to Taylor. Dot, short and wide, chopped to point. Dot. Dot, short and wide, cracked to cover off the back foot. Dot, full and wide, left alone. Dot, good length outside off, slapped to cover. Five men in the circle, three on the off, two on the leg. Single, short and wide, slapped behind point. USA 54/1 in 14.

Re: 2012 ICC Americas U-18 Match Play Day 6: Canada vs. USA
Malik over the wicket to Taylor. Two, darted in quick and flat on the legs, flicked fine toward long leg. Single, flighted on the stumps this time, driven uppishly to long off. Single, full on the legs, paddled awkwardly to square leg and Taylor calls for a sharp run. Dot, good length ball clipped to midwicket. Dot, full outside off, padded away. Single, full outside off, slapped to long off. USA 59/1 in 15, they claim a bonus point for being less than 3 down at this stage.

Re: 2012 ICC Americas U-18 Match Play Day 6: Canada vs. USA
Dutta to Taylor. Single, full and tapped into the off side. Dot, full and defended. Single, full on the legs, Ahmad mistimes a sweep off his gloves and it pops up behind the keeper. No ball, full and wide, over step as Taylor misses a drive and a free hit to come. Dot, Taylor came skipping down the track and Dutta darted it into his legs, Taylor couldn't get it away. Single, short and wide, slapped to the cover sweeper. Two, good length on the legs, flicked fine. USA 65/1 in 16.

Re: 2012 ICC Americas U-18 Match Play Day 6: Canada vs. USA
Malik to Taylor. Dot, short outside off, slapped to cover. DROPPED! Two, full on the stumps, slog swept out to deep midwicket and for the second time today, Malik has been let down by the fielder on the boundary. This time it's Prushoth Wijayaraj who claims he lost the ball in the sun. He never had it judged well, but at least he got hands to the ball, before bobbled it to the ground. Taylor dropped on 37 now. Two, full and swept cleanly over square leg. Single. Single. Dot. Single. Seven ball over by my count. USA 80/1 in 19 and they claim a bonus point for a 50-run stand which wouldn't have happened if they had caught Taylor there.
