Good morning from a hot and steamy Bayuemas Oval south of the Kuala Lumpur suburb of Klang. Peter Della Penna here where USA is getting ready to take on Malaysia in their first match of the tournament.

The news is that Malaysia has won the toss and elected to field. 

 USA XI: Massiah (captain), Taylor (wk), Nadkarni, Thyagarajan, Mishra, Baker, Corns, Allen, Hutchinson, Rajp, Ghous.

Of the three players who arrived yesterday, only Usman Shuja is sitting out. Andy Mohammed and Akeem Dodson are the other two missing out today.

 It's a good thing that this game isn't being televised because Malaysia just took the field in the most hideous looking uniforms I've seen in some time. They look like yellow jackets or hornets. Black unis with yellow trim here and there.

Sushil Nadkarni and Steven Taylor are walking out to open the batting now for USA. 

 Nadkarni will start on strike for USA, Taylor off, both left handers. Suresh Navaratnam to open the bowling for Malaysia. Right arm medium from the Tower End. Two slips in place. Dot, full and straight, hits the pads, huge LBW shout denied. We are sitting at square leg today. Dot, full and defended to the off side. The umpires now stop to have a chat after just two balls and Taylor has taken off some of his equipment. Through the radios in the pavilion, the bowler says his front foot is sliding too much and he wants some sawdust brought out to the field so there will be a slight delay. They opt to play on for now and they'll get the sawdust for the next over. Single, full on the legs, flicked behind square and long leg fields on the boundary. Third man is the other fielder outside the circle. Taylor comes on strike to face his first delivery. FOUR! Full outside off, Taylor strokes it with ease in front of point and the USA bench erupts.  Hiran Ralalage is the man bowling from the Bayuemas End, right arm over the wicket to Nadkarni, medium pace. Dot, good length ball defended to point. Dot, full and pushed back down the ground, could have been a single and looked like Nadkarni wanted one but Taylor was ball watching. FOUR! Overpitched outside off, Nadkarni winds up and drills it wide of mid off, who dives futilely. Dot, good length outside off, left alone. Dot, fullish length outside off, Nadkarni comes forward to defend and is beaten, appeal in the slips but the keeper spilled the ball regardless. Didn't look like an edge. Dot, short of a length outside off, Nadkarni shoulders arms. USA 9/0 in 2.

 Navaratnam to Taylor. Dot, good length ball left alone outside off. FOUR! Full outside off, Taylor leans into it and punishes it through the covers, mid off watches it run away to the rope. The boundaries are pretty big here for Associate cricket. FOUR! Full toss low outside off, Taylor slices it behind point and gets enough on it to beat the third man boundary rider. Single, good length ball outside off, Taylor opens the face to play it with soft hands to third man. Two, full on the stumps, Nadkarni whips it through midwicket, not timed well though and fielded by mid on well inside the rope after giving chase. Dot, bouncer on the stumps, defended on the back foot to cover. USA 20/0 in 3.

 Ralalage to Taylor. Dot, short of a length on off stump, defended to point. FOUR! Fullish length ball, Taylor drives on the up and smokes it through the covers. For someone who just landed here in KL at 2 pm yesterday, he's showing no ill effects from more than 24 hours of plane flights to get here and play a day later. Long leg is brought into the ring and a cover sweeper put on the rope. Dot, short of a length ball gets Taylor in the ribs. Dot, good length ball on the legs, clipped off the hip to square leg, Nadkarni set off from the non-striker's end and was sent back, gets in just in time ahead of the throw over the stumps to the bowler. Dot, good length ball on the legs, Taylor misses a flick, big shout for caught behind but the umpire taps his leg to say it was off the thigh guard. Dot, good length ball defended to cover.  Navaratnam to Nadkarni. Single, short on the hips, tapped softly into the leg side for a sharp run. Dot, good length ball outside off, Taylor frees his arms to slap it through the covers but mistimes it to mid off. Dot, slower ball on a good length, Taylor comes forward and drops his hands to get the bat out of the way late as it passes through low to the keeper. Dot, another ball with some pace taken off lands short of a length, Taylor beaten and off balance defending. Single, full and stroked wide of mid off to rotate the strike. Dot, yorker kept out by Nadkarni to cover. USA 26/0 in 5.

 Ralalage to Taylor. SIX! Full on the stumps, Taylor checks a drive but the ball flies off the bat and clears mid off and lands just over the rope. What timing! FOUR! Full on the legs, whipped through midwicket, mid on gives chase as the ball teases him to the rope. Dot, full outside off, the ball stays a touch low as Taylor is beaten with a half-hearted drive. Single, full outside off, driven crisply but picks out the cover sweeper on the rope. Dot, good length ball, Nadkarni is beaten going to defend off the back foot. Dot, full and defended to mid off. USA 37/0 in 6.

 Taylor on 29, Nadkarni on 8 after 6 overs. Usually it's the other way around for Nadkarni and his opening partners over the years he's been with USA. Not today.

Navaratnam to Taylor. Dot, good length ball left outside off. Dot, short of a length on off stump, defended behind point. Single, good length ball guided to third man. Dot, good length ball left outside off. Dot, short of a length ball outside off, Nadkarni is beaten coming forward to defend, big shout for caught behind by the slips denied, the keeper wasn't interested. Wide, first wide of the day, short and down the leg side. Dot, good length ball left outside off. USA 39/0 in 7.

 Taylor is calling for a hat to be brought out, tired of wearing a helmet. If he's seeing the ball that well with it on, can't wait to see how he sees the ball with a hat on instead. Nadkarni opts to keep his helmet on. Taylor grew up in Florida but with Jamaican traditions.

New bowler on, Khizar Durrani, off spin over the stumps from the Bayuemas End. Dot, good length ball cross batted back to the bowler. Dot, full and defended. Dot, short and punched to cover.  Dot, good length ball defended to Durrani. Now coming around the stumps with two balls left in the over. A slip is in place. Taylor marking his guard on middle stump now. Single, short and wide, carved to point, the fielder dives to knock it down, saving a boundary in the process, Faiz Noor the fielder. Dot, full on the legs, Taylor misses a flick, big LBW shout, umpire was never interested as he walked away to get ready for a possible leg bye.  @cricmaster90 No one here at the ground. It's in the middle of nowhere. Quite an adventure for my taxi driver to get me here today. The pitch looks rock solid, a 300 wicket from the early evidence. Lightning quick outfield too.

Durrani to Nadkarni. Dot, full and defended. Two, short and wide, caressed behind point, they wait until it gets past Noor's dive and then take an easy two. FOUR! Nadkarni gets into the act with his second boundary, short and wide, slapped hard in front of point through the covers. Dot, flighted full and defended. Dot, full and defended.  Suharril Fetri comes on to replace Navaratnam from the Tower End, off spin around the stumps to Taylor. Dot, full and defended. Mid on and mid off put on the rope straight away after the power play ends, deep midwicket, deep square and cover sweeper as well. Single, short and slapped to long off. Single, short on the stumps, tapped behind point, they take an overthrow after a brutal throw beats the bowler and goes to long on, so two from that and Nadkarni stays on strike.
