USA U-19 vs. West Indies U-19 Match 1 Live Updates

Good morning from Central Broward Regional Park in Lauderhill, Florida. Peter Della Penna here. I know this is going to come as a complete shock to everyone who is aware of events that transpired yesterday but, wait for it... IT'S BEEN RAINING ALL MORNING IN FORT LAUDERDALE! Yes, after play was postponed on a beautiful sunny day, the USA U-19 team arrived here 15 minutes ago and gets to hang out in the locker room while steady thundershowers come down on the field. There was just a horn that went off three times about five minutes ago. I'm not sure if that was the initial Thor-dar warning to keep everyone indoors for the minimum 30 minutes or if that was the all clear horn to signal that it's safe to come outside as lightning is far enough away from the venue. Either way, it's still raining and they're not going to start on time. Weather.com says it's going to be coming down until noon time. After that there's a two-hour window of sun before a 30% chance of more rain at 2 pm and continuing for the rest of the day.

That's Florida, the state with walking catfish, juries that acquit child killers, hurricanes, and rain all year round.

Someone better tell those Windies kids not to look at anyone with a frown.  In that state its perfectly legal to kill

    someone for that.

It's stopped raining here. They took the covers off the pitch about a half-hour ago and they are just just now taking the covers off the bowling run ups. Both teams have been warming up and the word is that they are shooting for an 11 am start. The clouds have gone away a little bit, but it's still somewhat dark here at the ground. I doubt they will get a full game in, but we'll see. They will not be reducing any overs from the start so it is still a 50-over match for now.

Kraigg Brathwaite and John Campbell have walked out to bat for the Windies in their traditional maroon ODI uniforms with gold trim. Salman Ahmad is opening the bowling from the Pavilion End. Brathwaite is on strike to start, right handed. Ahmad right arm fast medium over the wicket with two slips and a gully in place. Wide, full and swinging outside off. Dot, good length ball defended to the off side. Dot, good length outside off, defended on the front foot to Ahmad. Dot, good length ball outside off, Brathwaite fishes at it and the slips are excited. Dot, short of a length ball defended to the bowler. Dot, good length ball beats the outside edge on a back foot defense. Dot, fullish length, swings past the edge again, best ball so far. Very solid over from Ahmad to start. Windies 1/0 in 1.

Hammad Shahid to open from the Park End, right arm over the wicket, fast medium to Campbell, who is left handed. One slip and a gully in place. Dot, full and swinging outside off, defended to point. FOUR! Full outside off and flayed high over point with ease, it bounces a few times before crossing the rope. Dot, good comeback ball, fullish length just outside off and the batsman pulls the bat back very late. Dot, very full outside off, Campbell goes to drive and misses as the ball swings past the edge. Taylor went up for a loud appeal but umpire Hubert Smythe wasn't interested. Gully now moves to second slip. Dot, full on the legs, clipped to Nair at square leg. Dot, good length ball outside off and left alone late. Windies 5/0 in 2.

Dot, good length and defended to the off side on the front foot. Now fine leg comes to third man. Mid on the only on side fielder and Suri moves to short extra cover.      Shahid to Campbell. FOUR! Full outside off, stroked high over cover and it bounces away. Wide, good length and down leg side. Dot, full on the stumps and defended to mid off. Dot, good length outside off and left. Wide, down leg side again. Two, full outside off, driven firmly wide of mid off and Mirza chases it down for a pair. Nair now being moved from square leg to cover and Suri comes in to short extra cover. Three, short on the legs and pulled over midwicket, not timed well though so it stays well inside the rope. Regardless, poor bowling with no fielder between mid off and fine leg. Single, full outside off and guided to third man for Brathwaite's first run. Windies 17/0 in 4.

Ahmad to Brathwaite. Third man shifted back to fine leg for the start of Ahmad's next over. DROPPED! Short of a length outside off. Goes to cut and slices it straight to Shahid at gully and he spills a sitter at waist height. He takes a long time to get up off the ground after that one. Now he's moved to point and switched with Nair. Nair had been fielding at gully the entire time to Ahmad with the exception of that very delivery. Dot, good length ball and defended. Dot, good length ball and defended. Dot, good length ball and defended. Dot, good length ball and defended. Dot, full outside off and defended to cover. Maiden. Costly drop though of Brathwaite on 1. Windies 17/0 in 5.

Shahid to Campbell. OUT! Full on the stumps, and lifted tamely to mid on where Patel takes a straightforward catch at neck height. So Shahid makes a breakthrough after the drop in the last over. Campbell out for 13 in 12 balls, Windies 17/1 in 5.1 overs. Kieron Joseph the new man in, right handed. No helmet on for him and no hat either. Dot, full on the stumps and defended. This guy is pretty short too. Dot, short of a length ball on off stump, Joseph flails at it and is late. Single, good length on off stump, guided to third man and Joseph is off the mark. Dot, big LBW shout as a good length ball hits Brathwaite on the pads beating a forward prod but he was hit outside the line of off.Dot, another testing delivery on off stump and he defends late. Excellent over. Windies 18/1 in 6.

Mital Patel comes on to replace Shahid from the Park End, right arm fast medium to Brathwaite. Dot, good length ball outside off, slashes at it and misses. Two, full outside off, driven on the up past Abdulghani at short cover and he's upset because he should have stopped it. Taylor now comes up to the stumps. Two, good length on the legs, clipped to fine leg, given as leg byes by the umpire. Two, short on the legs, pulled off a bottom edge to midwicket and the ball dies badly in the outfield again. Two, full on the legs, clipped easily between midwicket and mid on. Dot, good length outside off and missed. Single, good length on the stumps and pushed to the covers. 7-ball over. Windies 34/1 in 10.
