On September 28th, dreamcricket.com carried a report that former New Zealand stars Chris Cairns and Nathan Astle have signed deals with the breakaway Indian Cricket League.
Four other former international cricketers, including Pakistan's Azhar Mahmood, have joined ranks with the multi-million dollar league, a statement from Zee Telefilms, who are bankrolling the league, said.
Kiwi players Chris Harris and Hamish Marshall, and England's Darren Maddy, complete the new list of signings by the league, set to start later this year.
Kapil Dev, the legendary Indian all-rounder who spearheads the ICL, said the deals were consistent with the league's promise to attract quality international players.

On August 30th, there were reports that NZC would go as far as sue the players that signed for ICL. Stephen Fleming and Shane Bond were among the players whose names were mentioned as prospects for ICL. The two eventually did not sign for ICL.
[But the threats of lawsuits were not enough to scare off Chris Cairns, Hamish Marshall and Daryll Tuffey (Chandigarh Lions), Chris Harris (Hyderabad Heroes), Craign McMillan (Kolkata Tigers), Nathan Astle (Mumbai Champs). Editor's note - 11/14/2007]
